Information About Central Reserve Police Force

The Central Reserve Police Force(CRPF) is a federal police organization in India under the authority of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India. It is one of the Central Armed Police Forces. The primary role of the CRPF lies in assisting the State/UTs in police operations to maintain law and order and counter insurgency. It is composed of the Central Reserve Police Force (Regular) and the Central Reserve Police Force (Auxiliary).

It came into existence on 27 July 1939 as the Crown Representative’s Police. After Indian independence, it became the Central Reserve Police Force on 28 December 1949 upon the enactment of the CRPF Act. In addition to law and order and counter-terrorism duties, the CRPF has played an increasingly large role in India’s general elections.
